The Divergent

We just published our new EP ’Close Your Eyes and Perish’. The official release date was 4.8.2023. Stylistically, we move between metalcore, melodic metal and djent. Singer Joonas Kataja has managed to combine vocals from angry growls to clean vocals, creating an interesting contrast between heavy and softer parts. The songs are technical in places, even drawing from progressive metal, but still never losing their groove and sense of melody. The lyrics combine different themes from personal struggle, to the rise of authoritarianism and extremism, mixing history, psychology and mythology, forming interesting analogies and poetic structures.

Malignant is the 3rd single from The Divergent’s upcoming album. It was composed by Markus Pulkkinen and Harri Moilanen and lyrics and vocal compositions soon after that by Joonas Kataja.

Man is a wolf to man. There are pretenders among us that you should exclude from your life. Malicious people who are worse than the villains of fairy tales. Real life monsters. Still, goodness eventually wins and those bloodsuckers end up living very sad and bitter lives.

Hexes is the second single from The Divergent’s upcoming album. It was composed at the end of 2022 by Harri Moilanen and lyrics and vocal compositions soon after that by Markus Pulkkinen and Joonas Kataja.

The ongoing war in Europe has raised a lot of emotions. In ’Hexes’ we channeled all the primitive anger and willingness to fight against injustice. We hope that it will be felt and heard by anyone who is defending their homeland and families, so they could be empowered by our powerful song.

The song ’Tyrant’ is the first single of our upcoming album, it was composed about year ago by Harri Moilanen and lyrics and vocal compositions soon after that by Markus Pulkkinen and Joonas Kataja. Song takes a mythological standpoint to tell a story about fight against tyrants and opressors, a theme we will revolve around in our album, looking at the topic through different perspectives.

Some news for you guys!

First to clear things up, Stygian and Resurgence were released as a single only and won’t be appearing on any future albums.

In the meantime we have started working on our 2nd EP. The album name or release date is yet to be decided. We will release 3 singles from the album during the first half of 2023.

We just finished shooting music video of one of the singles. It will be released later this year. After that we will try to release new song on every one or two months. Fun and exciting times I’d say!

We are currently working on our second EP/Album. There are handful of songs already written and Joonas is currently demoing vocal and lyric ideas. We’re hoping to start recording asap and release it during this year.
